Unknown Soldier

Verse 1
I cannot not feel my legs, think they may be blown away
Its numb below the chest, as crimson pools on clay  
Moments ago, whistles blow, adrenalin pumps through veins
Scenes appalling, fellows falling, for a miserly metre gain

Lost in the dirt of obscurity

This body forever maimed, but I pray to be saved
Under blue sky man has greyed, I hear humanity slayed
A tempest takes a petal, is blown upon a gust
Machinery sprays metal, what grows reduced to dust

Just alive amongst the dead, to whom I shall soon be wed
Seared earth a final bed, no last rites to be said
Brothers, with whom I fought, in mutual carnage caught
For what we strived, so many died, now it seems for nought

Unknown Soldier

I wrote 2 songs during the 100 year centenary of Word War 1 WW1. Where the Poppies Grow and Unknown Soldier (Dying in No Man’s Land). I tried to imagine the perspective of a mortally wounded soldier fading in and out of consciousness.
