Welcome to Capitalism

Verse 1
From the moment we are conceived

Until the final tear has been grieved

From womb to tomb someone’s on the make
Taking the largest slice of your cake

Taught in class to aspire to desires

Treat as truth gospels of the liars

Climb that ladder that goes ever higher

Til the gravity of greed pulls you into the mire
And all we wanted was the party to go on
Feel as though we’re worth it, we did belong
Like sacrificial lambs, worshipped then slain
Our blood sweat and tears fueling other’s gain

Chorus

Welcome to capitalism,
From the wrong side of the schism

We never see the beauty of its prism,
From behind the bars of a debtors prison

Verse 2

I want more to hide the fact I’m hide I’m poor

Disguise the naked truth I’m a marketer’s whore
With rings on my fingers, bells on my toes

Feeling so tall in these new emperor’s new clothes

I’ll make a stand on this castle built of sand

Fighting for the credit to own this piece of land

Secure in the delusion that my life  is not broke

Banking on not being the butt of someone else’s joke
The prophets of profit told us we could have it all

This bricks and mortar Babylon it can never fall

But in an instant Armageddon man’s creation fail

Kings reduced to pawns when everything’s for sale

Chorus
Last Bit
We worship mammon, idolize with lust
Martyrs to the material that surely turns to dust
Destroying creation as false gods we pursue
This religion of rapacity forsakes me and you
