Writing on the Wall

Chorus
They can see that the writings on the wall
Despite the smiles there’s really no hope at all
The sun rises up, the sun goes down
Will anything ever change in this town?

Verse1
Give her a kiss and she will tell
All of the rumours he won’t dispel
Veiled by a façade of the norm
Brews an ego fuelled storm
Despite harsh words and tears they remain

Verse 2
From a spirit glass he’ll soon confess
She confides in friends this hopeless mess
Sick sorry tired of the same routine
But every day repeats the scene
Too afraid to face the demons in their lives

Verse 3
In quiet of night she hears him breathe
Feigning sleep, thoughts of stay or leave
Dreams distract from the dread of dawn
Like mutual nemeses respawn
Resuming the state of conflict once again

Verse 4
Pondering now the vacant chair
Regretting wrongs beyond repair
Grieving for the time again, give love instead of pain
Outrun by fate, a lesson learnt too late
